Viking Bowmen for Saga

I acquired 12 metal Bowmen from Gripping Beast to fill 1 point for my Viking Saga Warband. They are just about finished but I took some snaps for an in-progress view around a week ago. Here they are prior to applying GW Devlan Mud Wash. Colours are basically Vallejo colours collected for Flames of War. It was really unusual to see these colours in such large areas or coverage. It made me think about the colours in a different way. Like how blueish London Grey looks. I should have them completed in the next few days so I will post the final result soon.

The Gripping Beast Viking Bowmen as you can see comes with 4 different poses. It was slow going initially as there was a lot of flash to remove and the bows require gluing in place. I am not sure I got it all around the faces. They also seemed a little larger than the Gripping Beast Plastic Vikings I have done previously but should look fine on the gaming table.

Here is a Hearthguard unit prior to the wash. I tried a different technique for the blue pants. Painted them white and watered down some blue and painted on to get the shading. It worked I think. Behind them is some vikings with Little Big Men decals yet to be Matt varnished.
Here they are after the wash (and prior to stickers on shields). I experimented with poses with the raised shield Viking and made him a lefty.
It's been a great Saga day as I got an email from War & Peace games letting me know that my pre-order of Northern Fury is on it's way. Cool. A Little while back I ordered a copy of 'Wargames Soldiers & Strategy' magazine and it was at home when I got there after work. Very cool. It is issue 59 that has a Viking theme so I will post more about the mag when I have had a chance to read it.

Cheers for now from Brendon (The Kiwi)

  2. Looking good!

When you say 'wash' do you mean something like AP dip?

I've been using the dip, then highlighting again after the matt varnish has been applied.

Have a look at some of the slightly older posts on my blog if you're interested.

  4. By wash I just mean painting on GW Devlan Mud or Vallejo Brown Shade. A combination of both on different parts of the figure. I paint the Vallejo Brown Shade typically on areas that I want a little more contrast like the face and hair.

Thanks guys for your coments. Your Warband looks really good Matt. I like it a lot.
    cheers
