Here in sunny Darwin windows have been rattling and some dogs have been annoyed as the skies are frequently filled with the roar of jet engines as exercise Pitch Black is underway. It's a big Air Force exercise that includes many nations from the region. During the exercise though RAAF Darwin has an Open Day and it's a great opportunity to see modern military equipment on the ground instead of roaring past above our heads. Me and the kid went along and here are some photos of what we saw. I will number them and you can figure out what they show. Nearby is the excellent Aviation Heritage Museum and they had some interesting aircraft on display as well.
Cool pics, looks like a great day out. I'm hopeless with planes, but I'm pretty sure number 12 is a German Shepherd! Cheers, Paul :-)
ReplyDeleteLOL! Great answer Paul.

Nice pics! That chopper looks dead scary to me. Never want to see one of those buzzing my house.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a nice outing!
The Chopper is a Tiger. I think it is a European design. It is from the Army rather than the RAAF.

Cracking pics Kiwi! Number 2-4 is a Corsair. Lovely looking plane even on the deck with the wings folded.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. It was my first chance to see one this close.
